Choosing a dog multivitamin: three lines for puppies, adults and seniors
You don't know which thing to start with, and you don't want to buy a jar of everything - that's exactly the situation a multivitamin is built for. The Zesty Paws 8-in-1 isn't only vitamins B, C and E: it already includes glucosamine + chondroitin (joints), AlaskOmega® fish oil (skin and coat) and Bacillus subtilis probiotic (gut), so joints, skin and coat, gut, immune health, heart, antioxidants, liver and vitality - eight areas of support in a single chew. For a dog with nothing specific going on, this is the steadiest place to start.
Pick by age
- 8 weeks to 1 year - Puppy 8-in-1 Multivitamin Bites: glucosamine + chondroitin to support developing joints, with fish oil DHA, probiotic strains and B vitamins for daily nutritional support. Feeding goes by weight: Up to 4.5 kg - 1 chew daily. Move to the adult version once they turn 1.
- 1 to 7 years - 8-in-1 Multivitamin Bites: peanut butter flavour, and an option to try if your dog dislikes tablets. A sensible starting point for dogs who refuse anything that looks like a tablet.
- 7 years and up - Senior Advanced 11-in-1 Multivitamin Bites: everything in the 8-in-1, plus curcumin, InCRANable™ cranberry and cognitive, eye and urinary support. Older dogs may have several care needs to consider, and this is the one jar that ticks them.
- Dogs who don't get on with chews - Multivitamin Powder: a salmon-flavoured powder you stir through food, with probiotic strains, omega fatty acids, antioxidants and VitaFiber® prebiotic. They don't get bored of it, and there's nothing to chew.
How to pair a multivitamin with single-issue supplements
The 8-in-1 is the base layer, dosed at everyday maintenance level. If your dog has one clear issue - joints already stiffening up, seasonal sensitivities hitting hard - add the matching single-issue product on top: the joint range or the skin and allergy range. Feeding both together is fine, but don't increase the 8-in-1 amount on your own.
Common questions
My dog already eats complete food - is a multivitamin still worth it?
Complete food meets the basic nutritional standards. A multivitamin can provide additional support for specific care needs, including joints, digestion, skin and coat. For a healthy dog with nothing specific going on, it's a bonus rather than a must.
Can I give my dog human vitamins?
No. Human doses and formulas, vitamin D and iron in particular, can be far too much for a dog, so use products made for dogs.
Is there a cat multivitamin?
There is - the Cat 8-in-1 Multivitamin Mousse, over in the cat section.
